Ordering hot tubs during continued lockdown

As a non essential business our showroom remains closed to the public at the moment and we are of course looking forward to being able to open again on 12 April with all the other non essential retail if we are permitted to do so under government guidelines.

We are still very much open for business though even if you can’t view hot tubs in person in the showroom.  One of the team is in the showroom answering the phone and taking click and collect orders during our published opening hours.  This is why if you google us it says we are open even if you can’t come inside the showroom.

We have Covid safe working methods for site surveys, installations, call outs and services so its very much business as usual.

Showroom re opens Wednesday 17 June

We are very pleased to be able to open our showroom again on Wednesday 17 June following the government lifting of restrictions for non essential shops.

We are operating social distancing within government guidelines so please be aware that we have the following systems in place:

  • only one customer allowed in store at a time (one customer could be one person or a couple who are together) Maximum 2 people requested at once.
  • Please wait by front door to be served
  • Please observe the in store signs and floor footprints to observe social distance
  • Please use the hand sanitizer provided on arrival
  • Please note that it is recommended to book private appointments for hot tub viewings to ensure you will get as much out of your visit as possible.  Appointments will take priority so if you come to store without an appointment and  another customer’s appointment is already underway when you arrive we will ask you to book for a later time or to wait.  Also display stock is more limited than usual due to high demand we may need to arrange to meet you at one of our other showrooms depending on which model you are interested in.

When are we open again?

We are getting a lot of calls asking us if we are open at the moment, even people turning up to the showroom asking to come in.   Yes we are open for business, and during the Covid-19 lockdown period we are working at the showroom behind closed doors during our normal working hours.

Unfortunately however this doesn’t mean we can open the showroom to the public.  We are in the category of shops that may be allowed to open to the public again on  15 June if the government eases lockdown rules further.

As many of our valued customers know already we are here to look after your hot tub requirements in a number of ways:

  • We can supply hot tub and pool chemicals via collection from store door or home delivery.  Chemicals must be ordered in advance and paid for by card over the phone and collected at pre -arranged times.
  • Private appointments to view hot tubs can be arranged under some circumstances – please call the store in advance so we can explain the requirements and book an appointment.
  • We can deliver and service hot tubs following Public Health England safe working guidelines.

The demand for hot tubs has never been higher – so if interested don’t be put off by the closed sign on the showroom door!  We are taking orders for our new range of British Hot Tubs now for July/August delivery.

Can the COVID-19 virus spread through pools and hot tubs?

As long as your hot tub is properly maintained and the water chemical levels correctly managed your hot tub or swim spa is a great place to spend self isolation, quarantine or lock down during the pandemic.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued the following guidance:
Can the COVID-19 virus spread through pools and hot tubs?

There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.  Source material is available here

The Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) advised the same after consulting with Public Health England.  They do remind people of course to practice social distancing and to avoid gatherings with friends and family which would perhaps imply that you should keep your hot tub or swim spa use to members of your own household.  You can see what they had to say here.

Winterising Your Hot Tub

For us, there is no better feeling than soaking in the Hot Tub in the crisp winter air – it’s so refreshing and relaxing at the same time! However, using your Hot Tub in the Winter is not for everyone, so we’re here to talk about winterising your Hot Tub!

 

Why Winterise your Hot Tub?

While hard-shell Hot Tubs can be used all year-round, some families prefer to keep their Hot Tub as a Summer-only activity. It’s not hard to see why some people choose this – you’re out in the garden more often in the Summer, kids are off school, the nights are longer… sounds great right?

If you’re not going to use your Hot Tub during the colder months, proper winterisation is vital. If you leave the water in over winter (this includes in the pipework), you’re leaving yourself open to a hefty repair bill in the Spring. Frozen water in the pipework will damage the internal plumbing!

How to Winterise your Hot Tub

Winterising your Hot Tub can be a risky game if you’re not 100% sure what you’re doing. If you don’t get all the water out, you’ll risk damaging the internal plumbing.

Should you Winterise your Hot Tub?

Coast Spas are Canadian-made Hot Tubs, that are designed to withstand the cold UK Winters while keeping running costs low. They are made to be left running all day, every day – even through winter!

If you’re leaving for an extended period over Winter (such as a few months) and cannot check on your Hot Tub, it is probably best to get it winterised.

Not winterising your Hot Tub also means you can use your Hot Tub whenever you want and even try soaking in the Winter – trust me, once you’ve tried it, you’ll use your Hot Tub more in the Winter than the Summer!

Most damage occurs to Hot Tubs from improper winterisation. While you can have a go at winterising your Hot Tub yourself, we recommend getting a professional winterisation and avoid an expensive repair. Or, skip the winterisation entirely and enjoy a relaxing Winter soak in your Hot Tub!
